Abstract

Jan Tinbergen was een idealistische technocraat, bij wie een specifieke, uit de jaren 1930 daterende ‘plansocialistische’ invulling van het sociaaldemocratische programma samenging met een naïef geloof in de objectiviteit van de economische wetenschap en de voorspellende waarde van econometrische modellen. Tinbergen heeft zowel in de wetenschappelijke als in de beleidssfeer enorme invloed gehad. Nog in de jaren 1990 bleek een meerderheid van de Nederlandse economen zich als ‘telgen van Tinbergen’ te beschouwen.

Author Biography

Ad Knotter, Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis

Ad Knotter (1952) is honorair hoogleraar aan de Universiteit Maastricht en research fellow bij het Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis (IISG) in Amsterdam. Na zijn pensionering als directeur van het Sociaal Historisch Centrum voor Limburg in 2018 is hij op het IISG begonnen aan een onderzoek naar de actiegeschiedenis van de vakbeweging in Nederland in de periode 1959-1982.
